Visa Wellington on a Plate is NZ's largest and tastiest culinary festival. Running for the whole month of August, the annual festival is a true reflection of Wellington's reputation as the country's gastronomic capital - a city boasting more cafés and restaurants per capita than New York itself!
Now in its 13th edition, Visa Wellington on a Plate promises to showcase 100+ special menus, 150+ events, 200+ burgers and 90+ cocktails. This year's theme is "Out of Place" - one for the improvisers, the fresh thinkers, the misfits, the rebellious, those who dance to their own tune and go against the grain. It's surprising, challenging, different, new, adventurous, exotic, momentous, delicious and curious.

South-East Asian Street Food meets Five Stars
InterContinental Wellington will host a pop-up restaurant inspired by the contrast of different food styles. Come on a culinary journey through South-East Asia, eating your way through small snacks to sharing-style curries, all washed down with cocktails. Chameleon Restaurant will transform the menu and evoke the lively flavours found in street markets across South-East Asia - with a few luxury twists at the heart of Wellington's premier five-star hotel.
A special cocktail list will be available for this limited-edition event, which will include twists on classic cocktails such as Espresso Martini (made with Vietnamese coffee and condensed milk, served in a long glass topped up with Kalhua-flavoured cream, Vienna coffee style), Bloody Mary (which will be spiced and flavoured with soy sauce, fish stock and chili) and Long Island Iced Tea.

High Cheese Experience
This innovative twist on the traditional high tea brings together a true match made in heaven: cheese and wine! The culinary experience features an array of cheese-themed and infused treats made with Hawke's Bay's finest cheeses, expertly paired with a flight of some of NZ's legendary wines from Te Mata.
The cheeses are sourced from Origin Earth, Hawke's Bay single-farm origin boutique producer, reputable for its high-quality and locally-sustainable products. Origin Earth products are unique in that they are all crafted from single farm origin milk and the cow’s milk is sourced from Hawke’s Bay farmers who farm within an hour of the factory. Single-farm origin means that the milk for any one batch of milk or cheese comes from a single farm and herd or flock. Milk from different farms or even from different milking’s is never mixed, making all our products completely traceable.

Itsy Tipsy Spider Cocktail
The superb bar team at The Lobby Lounge innovates once again. The idea behind the cocktail is a revised version of the classic kids drink/dessert known as Ice Cream Float (in NZ commonly called Spider).
Itsy Tipsy Spider combines House-smoked Bourbon, Vermouth and Smokey Pokey Wooden Spoon Ice cream, accompanied by a chocolate sprinkle donut.
Virgin Eyes on You is the cocktail's non-alcoholic version, replacing the Bourbon and Vermouth with House-smoked Ginger Ale and Lime.
These innovative cocktails are an experience for all the senses!

El Dorado Burger at Two Grey
A festival within a festival, Burger Wellington is an incredible success in Wellington, running for 18 days (13-31 August). This is a time when restaurants compete to produce the most original, tasty and unique burger.
Two Grey presents El Dorado, an extravagant creation inspired by the pursuit of adventure, search for riches and legends that served as a magnet to endless conquistadors and expeditions. In the road to El Dorado, new cultures clashed and fused, ushering a new world of bold ingredients to the rest of the world.
El Dorado brings together Bourbon-spiked Wagyu beef patty with Organic Wildness Chocolate barbeque sauce, caramelised onions, buttercrunch lettuce and cheddar in a gold glazed brioche bun, hot-stamped by the hands of Two Grey's talented team. The burger is served with fried cheese rings. Vegetarian alternative: Beyond Meat patty. Vegan alternative: Beyond Meat patty, bun, vegan cheese.
